| Christmas Time IS HERE |
[Dec. 22nd, 2009|03:08 pm] |
Hello, Friends!
I'm writing to you from marvelous Halifax, Nova Scotia today. I'm here visiting Tim's family for Christmas. I love Halifax so much, it's a friendly town with lots of fresh seafoods. It's the best kind of place to spend my first Christmas away from my baba! Also, I found out this morning that Tim's mom ordered lobster for Christmas eve. Oh oh oh my my my!!!! On the plane here I watch Julie and Julia for the first time and I think it may be a new favorite. Unfortunately, the flight from Montreal to Halifax was just short enough to get me to the climax of the movie, so I still don't really know how Julia got her book out or if Julie's marriage is over. Really, I just like the move for all of the cooking that's in it. I like the way is sounds and looooooookkksssss inside my stomach.
Anyway, here are two Christmas card illustrations that didn't make it to print this year. It's be nice to show them to someone! In a couple of days I'll share the one that DID make it. YAY!
I did this in October or late September for a friendly friend. It's my interpretation of the North Wind bringing the first snowfall to a city that looks quite similar to my own. Now that it's already a few months old, it's not as exciting in my eyes as it once was, but I was really proud of how it turned out at the time. Perhaps next year I'll do a series of these and sell them early in sets so that other people can send them out to friends and family in the mail. I like this idea.
This image was a design I was playing with for my own card. In the end I thought it was a little too flat. But it's cute. There you go.
I'm on an alien computer and it's not the type of computer I'm used to using either, so I'm not sure how often I'm going to be online/replying to emails/sending you roses but I tend to use twitter on my phone a lot: I am http://twitter.com/jordynb
Well, I'll be back on Christmas Eve with another card design, one that actually went into print AND was sent out to a MILLION good boys and girls. I hope you're having a nice week, my darlings. |

Hey, I completely redid my website up at http://www.maudevintage.com/jamesharvey. Tell me what you think, and if you have any suggestions. The image after the logo is randomly generated! refresh for new ones. There should be some artwork some of you haven't seen on this site, so have fun lookin' for that. The store's not up yet, but it'll mostly just be links to things already available to buy like my prints, t-shirt, stickers, things. I also registered a URL but it will take a while to activate (lame). [UPDATE: IT ACTIVATED, WWW.HARVEYJAMESTM.COM/]

Click through to play with the shiny new buttons
Something that worries me is that a lot of the artwork on this site is unattributed- should I annotate the galleries and say where the stuff is all from and who it's for, or should I leave it a mystery?
I bit the bullet and made a facebook fan page about me because I sure am my biggest fan! You can find a link to that from the site.
Lastly, I would like to draw special attention to how nice that donate button looks :-3 :-3 :-3 :-0 X-X |

I drew this some times ago while watching Ponyo. It's Ponyo's dad, Fujimoto. He's an amazing sea wizard! Coloring this was a nice little break from deadline hurt.

Also, this is really fun:
 Boobs are for stabbing???
Lere's a regular MARAT! Well, without the skin problems, I guess.
Saw this on harveyjames' last post. Do one here: http://www.getgrossedout.com/ |

http://www.getgrossedout.com/ is so good I wish I had done it! Now I know what I want to do with my life. I am going to run all my drawings through this site before I put them online. It gives everything you put through it an instant riotous energy that most of us only wish we could attain in our work. This drawing was boring before!
Also, look! Jigglypuff is gettin' a taste of his own medicine, right here:
I wonder if I would sell a lot more prints like this
 N.B. buy a print

Hello,
Marian is off on island adventures and I'm home-- staying up all night to meet a cover deadline. Here's how it came out:
It's for the issue that has a board game as part of the story--so the idea is you can cut out different characters from the front and back cover to play it with. I'm happy with how the price tag on this one worked out.
I just switched to larger paper for the last 30 pages of the book. Im drawing it 2 inches bigger. Hopefully it'll add some je ne se qua to the end of the thing.
Here's the first page of issue 12. (still the old size paper) ass and hummus--

And a page out of my sketchbook. on the left is me in Marians dads sweater that I refuse to take off in this icy cold canadian weather.

Here's a KC drawing the late great Mike Wieringo did after the first book came out. This picture was/is a big deal for me. he drew Joe so good looking and the cat so surley.

I was reading an old Moebius interview he said "being an artist you have one foot in eternity and one foot in the real world."- made it think about what of your work gets left beind after you're gone. As much as I might just leave the world a million fart puns richer-- It's exciting to think about. Like how much personality Bode put into his one page strips this stuff sticks around.
anywayy--I've been looking at a lot of Ronald D-pi Wimberly's stuff this week. That dude makes such cool pages. I like these pages from a Jessica Abel story he drew. man, that logo--
soo good. The rest of it's here: http://d-pi.com/dtv/graphix/short-cuts/the-beautiful-ones/
And I ran into these pages from World Apartment Horror. I guess it's a manga adaption of a live action Otomo movie that another artist drew. I know very little about it but I like the pages.

Here's the first chunk of it in Italian: http://www.nonsolomanga.it/manga2/otomo_wah.htm
and some pages from a collection of short stories called presentforme.
I like dude's parachute helmet. Even if its not too efective.
more of it up here in Chinese http://comic.131.com/content/58/175/1.html
And here's a drawing of a cat that I thought was cool.

And I ran into this crazy shit in an old Shonen jump. so -this menacing dude shows up to show off his incredibly well trained bats. and how does he repay them?
what a dick. bat eating dick. This is the type of shit I imagine goes on at burning man.
And here's a Tintin parody from a 1990 Watson Portello comic called Inferno.
I like seeing tintin with a beard.
And here's some Somerset Homes pages that I liked the layouts of. It's cool to see storytelling being played with this much in this style.

and here's another Japanese dune picture. the David Lynch stuff. I always think of this version when I think of Dune-- man that Baron Harkonnen looks even grosser in that middle drawing. like sun burned boils.

and some rad Birth tape covers.

and captain futureee with his front heavy space shark.

Aight--Ive been up way too long. sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeepzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz |

| SEEDLESS 68 |
[Dec. 9th, 2009|04:55 am] |
So YEAH, Seedless is my chibi-style MEGAMAN / DRAGON BALL mini-cosmic comic. Dragon Ball in it's nature, in the way the fighting locales must be unique with each new chapter (though, admittedly, Dragon Ball eventually almost always took place in deserts)-- So far, the battle locale for Seedless has been a KITCHEN, a JUNGLE and now a GROCERY STORE (and two random planets including Fajita's side stories). Pretty good lineup so far. I especially like the Grocery Store setting, because it has a checkered floor, which is all Sonic the Hedgehog style in it's simplistic ska awesomeness.
Here is a work in progress of the upcoming CHAPTER BREAK pages / stat page. Using the new totally digital photoshop drawing technique for these:
This will also be featured in an upcoming printedEditionOFseedless which is kind of in a hazy top-secret state of the art, at the moment...
And my friend MAX has a sweet comic up on ZUDA. If you got a minute, check it out and vote for it N STUUUFFFF

There are actually a couple other good / interesting comics in this month's ZUDA competition. But Max is my buddy, so give his comic a biased chance. |
